The glass fibres in fibre-optic cable transmit light signals very efficiently. So instead of conducting electricity, a glass fibre cable conducts light to transmit a signal. Besides being many times faster than a copper cable, a glass fibre cable is also cheaper to make and lay. Not surprisingly, therefore, the popularity of fibre optic cable has soared in recent years.

Where do you connect the fibre optic cable?

The fibre-optic cable is connected between the fibre-optic network and the modem in the meter cupboard. Between the modem and the various devices such as television and computer, a network cable is used to transmit the signal.
