The cat6 cable is the best-selling cable today. It has a maximum speed of 10,000 Mbit/s (10 Gigabit!) and a bandwidth of 250Mhz. This makes the Cat6 our favourite network cable by a mile and we recommend it to everyone for home use. The Cat6 comes both shielded (Cat6 SFTP, our recommendation!) and unshielded (Cat6 U/UTP).

[split]

Most popular Cat6 cables of 2021: UTP Cat6 100 metres rigid, UTP Cat6 50 metres rigid, UTP Cat6 100 metres flexible.

This makes the Cat6 cable particularly good

Compared to its little brother (Cat5e), the Cat6 is 10x faster (10,000 vs 1,000 Mbit/s) and has a higher bandwidth (250Mhz vs 100 Mhz). This means that a Cat6 cable is faster AND can process more data simultaneously at high speed.

Please note: a Cat6 cable can only achieve the maximum speed of 10,000 Mbit/s at a length shorter than 45m. From 45-100m, the maximum speed is 1,000 Mbit/s. Still not bad at all (and still at a bandwidth of 250 Mhz making the Cat6 preferable to the Cat5).

There are two types of Cat6 cables:

We recommend choosing the S/FTP variant when the cable will (potentially) be close to sources of interference, such as power cables and coaxial cables.

Can it get any better? Yes, it can be even better!

Of course; there is always room for improvement! And that step is closer than you think. Indeed, the bigger brother of Cat6 cables is the Cat6a cable. At 500Mhz, it has double the bandwidth of a 'normal' Cat6 cable and reaches 10,000 Mbit/s at lengths up to 100m (the Cat6 reaches this speed up to 45m). We recommend the Cat6a if you have special applications, such as Hi-Res Streaming Audio/Video, but otherwise a Cat6 cable is more than sufficient for home use (streaming, gaming, video calling, etc.).

The Cat6 cable has now become the new standard and we can recommend it to everyone!
