What is the Cat5e cable on reel suitable for?

The Cat5e cable can be seen as the budget variant of all cable categories. It is a fine network cable for realising a standard network, but it is not the fastest cable. In fact, nowadays the Cat5e cable is the slowest cable we supply in rolls. Still fine for building networks where no heavy network applications are used. But not recommended if this does happen, or is expected to happen in the future. Because of the ever-increasing bandwidth requirements, the Cat5e cable is no longer the standard cable category. In fact, that is nowadays the Cat6a cable.

Speed and stability of a Cat5 reel

The Cat5 cable offers a speed of 1 gigabit per second with a bandwidth of 100Mhz. We offer the reels both unshielded and shielded. Unshielded (UTP) is cheaper but offers no protection against external electromagnetic interference. Shielded (S/FTP) and Folded (F/UTP) do offer this protection. Whereby the S/FTP variant offers the best protection.
