What does RJ45 stand for?

RJ45 stands for "Registered Jack" or registered plug. Sometimes it is also called an 8P8C (8 positions, 8 conductors). The funny thing may be: hardly anyone knows the name, but almost everyone has to deal with it. In fact, the RJ45 plug is the one used for Internet cables.

RJ45 connectors for all cables

An RJ45 plug is therefore used as a connector on a network cable. Network cables come in many shapes and sizes and for every cable we have a type that fits perfectly. Which RJ45 do you need? That is not so difficult: just choose an RJ45 connector that fits the cable you are going to put it on and choose the right one here:

For UTP or FTP?

If, as we advise above, you simply choose an RJ45 plug that matches your cable then you will be fine. But it is worth remembering to choose a connector that matches the properties of the cable. Network cables come in shielded/shielded varieties (often called "FTP") and unshielded/unshielded varieties (often called "UTP").
